Extra-Terrestrial - Cometa

Sicilian wines have come on leaps and bounds over the last 10 years and Planeta is a great example of this success.

Their 2007 Cometa, which is made from 100% Fiano, a white grape variety that is unique to Sicily, brings a fantastic array of flavors to bear.

The bottle is tinted yellow, disguising the wine as some sort of late harvest dessert wine, but it is not. Once released from the bottle you get a brilliant straw color with a rich nose of pears and citrus, and then on the palate you get a rich concentration fruits and herbs that linger long enough to ensure your complete satisfaction – this isn’t your usual Chard or SV, this grape has potential and the 2007 clearly gets it done – don’t be afraid, this ones special.

If anyone knows the history behind the terrestrial names (Planeta & Cometa), I’d be very interested to know more?
